Report urges more climate change support for the'moderate' Republicans in Congress
On June 23, President Obama declared that "climate change is a defining threat to our future generations." If Congress fails to act on the climate change agenda it would set back American leadership on international climate policies, damage American jobs and threaten American livelihoods in the worst ways — and there are many Republicans who are willing to listen to President Obama.
"I want to make clear I will not let inaction continue in the face of serious threats to American security," said Rep. Dave Trott (R-MI), who chairs the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee. "The threat posed by global warming has become so dire that the last thing we need is to further stifle progress toward a better energy future. But Congress must act on this issue now — before the planet has cooled off even further."
As Republicans take to the floor Thursday for their annual spring recess, these Republicans — who are all among a growing number of House Republicans — are making it their mission to get the administration to take action to stop the effects of climate change.
As much as they are not in favor of immediate action, these lawmakers are willing to fight on a climate "tiptoeing" path that would put them in opposition to President Obama's climate initiatives. But they're not quite as eager to join a "wetter" administration.
In fact, many Republicans are in the minority on some of Obama's key climate goals, including pushing new rules to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants — and even proposing a cap-and-trade system that would have the White House work with members of Congress on what they call "clean energy infrastructure."
Here are 10 Republicans eager to get behind Obama on climate change:
Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) "I was born in Georgia. My father worked in the coal industry and my mother was the mother of the co-founder of an aerospace company, one of the founding father of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the former CEO of a solar company that's still owned by his family." My mother was the mother of the co-founder of an aerospace company, one of the founding father of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the former CEO of a solar company that's still owned by his family." Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) "My father came from a plantation in West Virginia; my grandfather worked in the construction and milling industries. He worked at the same company that did the oil refineries that were used by the military. I have strong ties to coal companies. The coal company that employed me once owned by m

Lyne mp plans to sell agl shares
Nolan Pearson's business empire's financial woes are being highlighted by a plan to sell the majority of her agl shares to the highest bidder, despite an interest in the business and its future.
The company, which was launched in late 2012 by Ms Pearson's family, has been in financial trouble since July when it posted a net loss of $24 million, more than 12% of the company's $22.2 billion sales.
With its shares traded below $20 for much of this year, the market value has fallen below $2.
That had prompted Ms Pearson, who has a net worth of $20.4 million and is a trustee of the Agl Share Fund, to launch a bid to buy the company at a tender price of $27.20 a share.
The proposed sale would see it sell up to 15.3 million shares, about 14% of the company's 11.2 million outstanding shares, at a price tag of $31 a share.
The bid, put forward by Mr Nolan Pearson's company, the Doonbeg Group, could cost $23.7 million to $25 million.
If the deal fell through, it would result in the share offering going into administration for the third time since 1996, in which time an "adverse impact" to the market and a "very severe loss" to the group could have occurred.
It follows two bids by the same group to buy the company earlier this year, with an option in place to raise an additional $25 million, an issue the government has warned may mean the collapse of the agl business.
The $27.20 a share price is much higher than the $15.95 to $17.95 that Ms Pearson has reportedly asked for.
Mr Pearson did not respond to the ABC's request for comment this afternoon.
While Mr Pearson could sell the share offering, he insists that he will not sell his own interests, saying they would "probably run into more trouble [than his company's] business".
The company has been in existence since 2011 but had been held up by a debt pile of $28
